Well lets see what the Caverswall Quilters were up to on Wednesday,

Today Wendy brought with her this beautiful Bargelo Quilt :) 

 

 Cathy has been working very hard on her Lone Star (getting all the seams to match up!!) but as you can see she has done very, very well. she is now in the process of joining them all together :)

Irene has been working on her beautiful rag quilt, she has got a few more blocks to make before she commits to where everything will go, but I think its looking fantastic at this stage.

This is a close up of the blocks, she is making each block, quilting it, then apartment quilting them together with the seam allowance peeping out to give the rag effect :)

Aunty Beryl is making yet another beautiful linus Quilt, at the moment she is adding her binding.

Wendy is still Quilting her fabulous Wedding Ring Quilt, doing a mix of stencil quilting and free motion quilting.

 

 

Maggie joined us today, she is still making her Katharine Guerrier scrap quilt blocks, I cant wait to see it finished :)

 

Today I was informed by my 6 year old daughter that I was making her a bag for her new I pod so    ta dar!!!

 

Also Wendy brought me a little project to, I mentioned I wanted to learn to crochet, so she kindly brought with her some wool a crochet hook and a book, she showed me the basics and some encouraging words form her and Aunty Beryl and I was off!! Well I didn't get far but I did crochet a fabulous bracelet!! :)

The Simon Henry Workshop

Well on Wednesday we had two very special visitors we had our dear friend Angie and Simon Henry another Quilting expert!

 

This is Simon showing us all how to create this beautiful piece below named "Angie's flower" which Simon created for our workshop to involve curved piecing, trapunto and free motion quilting,

 

We will be learning how to quilt "Clam shell" shown in the bottom brown section, "Inca tiles" shown in the light blue, "Spiral in spiral out" shown in the top brown section and "French brocade" shown in the cream section at the top.

 

  Lets see how we got on...

This quilting is called French Brocade, Simon showed us all how to easily do this pattern.

 

This is Kate's wonderful piece, which she is planning to turn in to a bag!!!

This is another example of the French Brocade, there were lots of other pictures but the lovely ladies wanted to wait till they were finished

Simon Henry Workshop Reminder

Wednesday 14th May is our Simon Henry Workshop (places are all taken) He will be looking at curved piecing, trapunto and free motion quilting.

If you are joining us here is a quick reminder of what you will need, 

Fabric in four contrasting colours of your choice. About a fat quarter of each will be more than enough.

About 20 inches square or so of medium weight wadding

About a 20 inch square of backing fabric,

Mid tone piecing thread 

Quilting thread 

 

A sewing machine that has drop down feet and a foot for free motion work.

An open toe foot (not essential)

 A small hot iron 

Spray starch 

 A medium sized artist paint brush 

Fabric glue

About a meter off a roll of freezer paper

A black pen for tracing your pattern 

Fine pins

Scissors 

Large eye sewing needle

A hard pressing board , MDF covered in cotton wadding then in cotton fabric will be fine. 

I'm really excited to do this workshop and can't wait to take lots of photos to share

Well today we have all had a group discussion and decided that from now on we will be open every Wednesday, because we all love going so much!

Lets see what else we have been doing, Wendy brought a little friend with her today which she made at home from buttons! She is very creative!

She also brought along the beautiful wedding ring quilt with her to quilt,

Wendy brought a new toy with her today, which we were all very eager to look at, it is a stencil and a chalk pad which helps you mark out where you would like to quilt,

  This is the quilt with the chalk on

Then its quilting time, note that Wendy is wearing gardening gloves for added grip,

Then this is her end result a beautiful touch to this fabulous quilt.

 Marilla has made another fabulous Dresden plate block and added Prairie Points to give it more depth, Marilla can't decide weather to make this in to a small quilt or another cushion.

And me well I had princess party bags to make, the first one took its time but once I got the hang off it I managed to make all seven! (with a little help from my surrogate nanny)

 There isn't many photos today because one I was a tad busy making party bags and because lots of people are half way thought project and not ready for their photos yet, I promise next week there will be lots more exciting ones because we are doing our Simon Henry workshop including free motion quilting, trapunto and curved piecing!!

 

 

Wednesday 30th April

Note to all, the Caverswall Quilt Cave WILL BE OPEN on Wednesday the 7th May due to popular demand :)

All the ladies who went to the Uttoxeter Quilt Show wanted me to tell you what a wonderful time they had, and by the sounds off thing they had very heavy bags to carry!!!

Well back to Caverswall and we are all glad to be back after our week off, lets see what these talented bunch have been up to.

Well we have a toot toot for Wendy she has named this Quilt "A tribute to great Dixter" this is a beautiful Bargello Quilt made for her lucky Daughter.

 

Another fabulous bag from Wendy, she says this will probably end up as another raffle prize for the pensioners bingo raffle :) 

Annette has just finished putting the binding on her lovely rail fence quilt and will just have to hand sew the binding to the back to finish. The dark browns really help the pattern to stand out.

 

Irene is making these small blocks to make a rag quilt, she is quilting each block and then will sew them together with the 'snipped' edge peeping out to give it the rag effect, she got this beautiful fabric from the highlands on her holiday. lucky girl!

 

Another stunning Dresden Plate cushion for Marilla, this one has a 3D effect on her sunflower petals and is all hand sewed!

 

We are all delighted to have Maggie back from her little break, today she has been working on this lovely Katharine Guerrier Scrap Quilt, and the colour fabrics she has chosen really complement the pattern, when this is finished she will be putting it in her bedroom :)

Margaret has been fiddling in her bits box (as we do!) and she found these blocks, so she is planning to turn them in to a double sided cover for her cooker hob!

It's never to early to get a start on those Christmas projects, Chris is making these beautiful table runners as a commission and all the proceeds are going to her local church. :)

 

Have I saved the best till last? Arty Beryl has been adding to this wonderful creation all day with fancy stiches and different textured fabric, I can't wait to see it finished.

 

 

And me, I have been cutting pieces to make princess party bags! as they are still in bits I also created this pretty little flower.

Jenny has made this fabulous Asian Garden Quilt, she has just got to finish quilting around the edge then it's off with those crusts.

Beryl is working on yet another beautiful Linus Quilt and is quilting this one in the ditch. 

This is Wendy's Scrap Attack Quilt! Using all her scrap blocks and fabric to create this wonder quilt, and the fabric at the top is going to be on the back.

Foxy Margaret saw this lovely block being created and fancied ago, this will go on the back of her lap quilt that she stared last week. 

Chris took advantage of the big tables and sandwiched her lovely quilt, she is planning to quilt around the edges and around all the little aliens :)

Lynda has been busy at home and made these fantastic Christmas baubles and is going to do us a little   workshop in September so we can create our own. 

And me well I finished my little cushion and made the back and even put in a zip at the bottom

I also made this Christmas bauble from a little pack given to me by Wendy :) 

Next week we are closed because of the bank holiday Monday but I hope you all have a lovely Easter    And I will look forward to seeing what you having been creating over the holidays :)

This is our first week without our dear friend and quilting guru Angie (she is having some well deserved R'n'R) so let's see how we got on...

This is Chris' lovely space cot/bed quilt for her grandson Bertie, She is having a few problems with the fiderly boarders but she is getting there, and what a lucky boy Bertie is!

Lynda has made this beautiful rail fence quilt, it's going to be a Christmas present for some lucky person,  and she is really enjoying making it!

Foxy Margaret brought this as a panel and had plans to make some cushions but nothing goes to plan and they were to big so it's now going to be a lap quilt after adding a few buttons. 

Kate made this fantastic mini quilt at a workshop and loved it that much that she plans to turn it in to a quilt for a double bed! She is going to use the Dresden plate around the edge and is using apartment   quilting to finish. 

Annette has made this lovely quilt for her mum using the rail fence block and has nearly finished quilting, then it's time for binding! 

Marilla has made this stunning Dresden plate cushion by hand, she did confess she sewed only down the side of the cushion using her machine. And she said she had a wonderful time picking out the fabrics with Angie in Angie's fabric shop. 

Chatty Cathy had to re-measure and re-cut her diamonds for her lonestar quilt, as she did not press the strips correctly before she cut them out. She says and I quote" I have learned a good lesson today and will be more careful in the future.

Wendy always comes in with things she has "just knocked up" in her spare time, this is a lovely quilted bag.

Irene has made this delightful quilt for her son Matt and she is happy it's nearly finished. 

Like Pinocchio's nose Wendy's Bargello quilt grows and grows! 

She has decided this is going to be a table cover for her daughters garden party for her 50th birthday! 

Foxy Margaret has been making this for a few weeks now, it's a beautiful cover for her new I pad.

And finally me I made this quilted owl cushion for my niece we did have to fudge it together a bit but it looks pretty good if I do say so
